• rv Fast Path on Windows: Downloads prebuilt Windows release binaries from spinel-coop/rv (x86_64-pc-windows-msvc, aarch64-pc-windows-msvc), extracts them to ~/.local/bin, and manages modern MRI Ruby versions (3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 4.0) via prebuilt Ruby packages.
• Compatibility Fallback on Windows: Automatically routes older Ruby versions (< 3.2), alternative engines (JRuby, TruffleRuby), or forced overrides (use-setup-ruby) to ruby/setup-ruby.
• Path & Environment Normalization: Normalizes MSYS2 / Git Bash $PATH and exports Windows-compatible environment variables (GEM_HOME, GEM_PATH, BUNDLE_PATH) and GITHUB_PATH across PowerShell, cmd, and Git Bash.
• Build-from-Source Optimization: When building rv from source via rv-git-ref, targets only -p rv to avoid compiling workspace fuzzing crates on Windows MSVC.
• rv clean-install on Windows: bundler-cache: true uses rv clean-install on Windows, with ore gracefully skipped with an informative notice.

  • Recognized failures: native extension build errors, dependency resolution conflicts, incompatible Ruby versions, Gemfile/gemspec load errors, lockfile or platform mismatches, and git authentication failures
  • Transient failures (network errors, a gem not yet in the index) still retry with exponential backoff
  • All retrying install steps share one helper, scripts/retry.sh, which keeps each attempt's output for classification and returns the command's exit status

• Appraisal Setup Inputs: setup-ruby-flash can now install trusted pre-bundle gems, prepare an appraisal root Gemfile, cache appraisal gems, and retry appraisal2 installs

  • pre-bundle-gems and pre-appraisal-root-gemfile-gems accept newline-separated gem install argument lines
  • appraisal-name runs bundle exec appraisal <name> install when provided
  • main-bundle-install: false skips the main Gemfile install for appraisal-only workflows
  • appraisal-install-retries defaults to 2 and retries without changing configured Gemfile sources
  • Setup decisions are precomputed as named step outputs so workflow conditions remain auditable

• Ruby Summary Detail: Workflow summaries now show the installed Ruby patch version when it differs from the selected Ruby line

  • Summary headings include the setup-ruby-flash action version when it can be resolved at runtime
  • rv fast-path summaries show values like 4.0 (4.0.6)
  • ruby/setup-ruby compatibility summaries include a separate installed Ruby description row for engines and head builds
  • *-head compatibility summaries include a Ruby build revision row when the runtime exposes one
