Prose links, GO BACK, and descriptions that withhold what must be examined - #82

…mined Stories mark tappable words Twine-style ([[label]] or [[label->target]]); hosts that set PROSE_LINKS receive the markup, all others the plain label. GO BACK retraces the last step for every story, from the bootstrap. Blackwood Horror no longer quotes the drawing, the vial or the ledger in a room description, and its cabinet lists its contents only once opened. What changes
Prose links. Stories mark the words a reader can act on, Twine-style:
[[crayon drawing]], or[[iron gates->gate]]when the parser's word differs from the prose. A host that renders links setsPROSE_LINKSbefore the bootstrap runs and receives the markup; every other host, and every transcript test, reads the plain label, so existingASSERT-TEXTchecks are unaffected.GO BACK.
go back, walk backandbackretrace the player's last step, for every story, from the bootstrap: the command is rewritten to the direction whose exit leads to the room the player came from. The two rooms are numeric globals, so they are saved, restored and restarted with the rest of the story. With no way back,go backanswers "You can't retrace your steps from here." without spending a turn; a barebackis then left to the story's own verb.Blackwood Horror prose. A description says what a glance takes in (Zork I prints the leaflet only when read, and lists the mailbox's contents only once it is open):
examine drawingshows it;close cabinethides its contents again; The opening rooms (gate, entrance hall, reception, theater, ward) carry links for testing.
