Docs for mobile-air #369, which adds a supported_locales config key. That key decides which languages an app offers in the Android per-app language picker, the iOS Preferred Language setting and the App Store listing.

What changed

  • New page: Digging Deeper > Localization. It covers declaring languages, what users see on each platform, reading the chosen language from Device::getInfo(), the two build warnings, and removing a language.
  • Configuration: a short Supported Locales reference, and the Localizing iOS Permission Strings section now says strings are only written for supported locales.
  • Plugins > Permissions & Dependencies: the host app decides the languages, and CFBundleLocalizations in a plugin's info_plist is ignored.
  • Upgrade guide: a 4.6 entry. Apps that use permission_localizations, or rely on a plugin's translations, need to declare those locales or the translated strings stop shipping.
  • config/docs.php: adds 4.6 to the released versions list so the version badges pass VersionBadgeTest. Same change Document production and testing builds for Mobile 4.5 #523 made for 4.5.

Things to check

  • This assumes the feature ships as 4.6. If it goes out under another version, the badges, the upgrade guide heading and config/docs.php need changing. It should merge when that release is tagged, not before.
  • The example sets the locale in AppServiceProvider::boot(). I checked the code: bridge functions are registered before PHP boots on both platforms, so the call works there. On Android the persistent runtime survives the activity being recreated, so boot() does not run again when the user switches language with the app open. The page says so in an aside. I have not tested this on a device.
  • The page says nothing about Google Play listing languages. The config comment in mobile-air says "both stores", but only the App Store behaviour is backed by the PR.
  • The iOS aside (the Preferred Language row only shows when the device has more than one preferred language) is standard iOS behaviour, not something from the PR.

Tests

php artisan test tests/Feature/DocumentationRenderingTest.php tests/Feature/DocumentationTableOfContentsTest.php tests/Feature/Docs tests/Feature/DocsPrereleaseVersionTest.php tests/Feature/DocsMcpServerPageTest.php tests/Feature/DocsSearchMetaTagsTest.php gives 96 passed.

mobile-air #369 adds a supported_locales config key. It decides which
languages an app offers in the Android per-app language picker, the iOS
Preferred Language setting and the App Store listing.

Adds a Localization page under Digging Deeper, a short reference in
Configuration, and updates the permission string sections for apps and
plugins. The upgrade guide gets a 4.6 entry because translated iOS
permission strings now need their locale declared.
